TEDx Dublin

TEDxDublin is being organised by UCDs Aaron Quigley and is being hosted by Dublin’s Science Gallery on 12 June 2009 @ 19:15.

TEDx events are independently organised TED events. They are being organised in cities all around the world, and now in Dublin too! You can find more information about TEDx here.

So far only  a Facebook page has been set up, but a proper site is in the pipeline.

Tickets sold out in a flash. The 100 places were snapped up in less than 50 minutes! Don’t worry though, if you didn’t manage to get a ticket, videos of the event will be available from the Science Gallery site afterwards, as well as one the keynote talks being broadcast live.

Confirmed speakers so far:

man test

It’s the law; if one man says “man test” then both men must attempt to assert their manliness

(16:03:04) Eugene Kenny: if [ $var -ne 0]; then
apparently
(16:03:12) eoin: man test
(16:03:19) eoin: will tell you all you need ot know
(16:03:40) eoin: [ ] are just syntactical sugar for test
(16:03:41) Eugene Kenny: man test!
(16:03:50) Eugene Kenny: picks up some heavy logs

Ready… Steady… Beard!

Austin Croshere, Bucks Warriors Basketball
It’s that time again folks.

The time that, no matter how much lecturers try to front load their courses, all the projects, all the assignments and all the reports are due. The time that we are meant to use to study for exams.

It is, Ladies and Gentlemen, the time of Beards!

Once a year, for the last 2 or 3 years now, a few of my classmates and I have forgone the usual rituals of manhood for the sake of a greater good. A good so great, that there are no greatnesses which are more good.
The Beard Competition.

Online Dublin Computer Science Summer School 2009 (ODCSSS)

ODCSSS Student…or simply put, Odysseus.

I feel that it’s my duty to plug ODCSSS 2009. I did it 2 summers ago and it was a really great experience.

ODCSSS, which is in its fourth year of existence now, is a great way to get some experience in the area of academic research. If you are unsure about what you would like to do after you graduate from a Computer Science or related Degree, then this is a perfect way to get a look at what post grad study is all about.

And not only that, but you get paid to do it! And of course you get to spend the summer here in Dublin, one of the world’s greatest summer destinations. :P

The project I worked on was glowtags, but every year there is a different theme, about which the projects are based.

The theme for ODCSSS 2009 is:

“Technologies for bridging the digital-physical divide: sensing the environment”

At the very least, check the projects out and see if there is anything that interests you, and if there is, apply! You could be pleasantly surprised!

…like I was.

Oh, and it’s fun too!
